What is Symbiosis IV about?

Symbiosis IV is an online exhibition featuring art created through the international mentorship initiative by The Art of Letters.

DATES: 23 Nov - 8 Dec 2024

What is the mentoring initiative?

The Art of Letters hosts an international mentoring initiative in which artists are formed into mentoring groups led by established artists. For 8 months to a year, mentees are guided in their art-making process and work towards producing a body of works for an online exhibition named ‘Symbiosis’.

Who are the artists in Symbiosis IV?

For Symbiosis IV, we have four distinguished mentors and 11 mentee artists, altogether from 12 countries:

ANDREA WUNDERLICH (Germany) mentoring: Annabel Delgado (USA), Irène Le Corre (Switzerland) and Maki Shimano (Japan)

ELEANOR WINTERS (USA/France) mentoring: Elif (Turkey), Nur Syuhada Jaafar (Malaysia) and Toks Ojo (Australia)

GABRIELA SOBA (Spain) mentoring: Alicia Márquez (USA), Ines Buteler (Argentina) and Roxana Hernández (Poland)

JULIE WILDMAN (USA): mentoring: Ines Sotomayor (Argentina) and Dashaen (India)

Introducing the mentors & mentees

This mentoring group is led by Andrea Wunderlich, with mentees Annabel Delgado, Irène Le Corre and Maki Shimano.

Andrea’s group used The Book of Hours as their inspiration, creating modern & cross-cultural interpretations.

The medieval Book of Hours were beautifully illuminated books containing the routine of daily prayers divided into hours of the day. Touching on topics from war, death, plague, travel and bad weather, these prayers show us the intimate thoughts of people who lived centuries ago.
