Calligraphy & lettering arts are enjoying a lively resurgence

The centuries-old calligraphy and lettering arts has survived the invention of the ballpoint pen, the printing press, the word processor and the age of computers. It now enjoys a resurgence, buoyed by emerging artists all over the world.

Rising to take their place beside established artists, they are re-interpreting traditional disciplines, blending them with new approaches, techniques and media.

At The Art of Letters, we showcase established and rising artists, connecting them with a new generation of art lovers and collectors.

Our mentorship initiative catalyses the growth of artists through mentors who guide artists in creating art for an international audience.

What is ‘Symbiosis’?

‘Symbiosis’ is the online exhibition which showcases the art produced within our international mentorship programme where artists are mentored for over eight months to a year by established artists.

The mentorship helps catalyse artists’ growth through collaborative learning and creating art for our online exhibition. The artists host talks to share their processes and inspiration.

The word ‘symbiosis’ describes the dynamics of the mentor-mentee relationship where they inspire, nurture and amplify each other’s creative energy.

This year, four distinguished mentors led 11 mentee artists to create works for the exhibition. Their works span from abstract art to traditional calligraphy applied innovatively, taking forms such as installations, weaving, embroidery and stone-carving.

View their works in the gallery, learn about the art-making at our Weekend Events, and join the 48-hour Art Auction on Instagram on 3 Dec!
