NATHALIE MORA | L.O.V.E

$0.00

ARTIST | Nathalie Mora

BASED IN | Costa Rica

TITLE | L.O.V.E

SIZE | 272 x 377 mm

Ever since I learned calligraphy, I’ve wanted to create an art piece with the lyrics of Nat King Cole’s L.O.V.E. In the past, I preferred to do small pieces that I could complete quickly. One of my goals for this mentoring journey was to attempt larger pieces. This was the perfect moment to push myself.

This piece shows the L.O.V.E initials surrounded by acanthus leaves, with gilded details. Next to them in Copperplate, I added the meaning of each letter.

In golden watercolour, I added small decorations with tulips. Tulips to me represent a love that will last forever.

MEDIUM | Daniel Smith watercolours, McCaffery’s brown ink for initials, Ferris Wheel Press ink in Bluegrass velvet for text, miniatum ink, gold leaf and cold-pressed watercolour paper.

PRICE | Not for sale.

About the artist

Art has been part of Nathalie’s life. Since her childhood, she loved creating and always sought ways to express her creativity, whether it be drawing, painting, nail art, photography or body painting.

Her calligraphy journey began in 2020 when she joined a lettering class. She fell in love with the beauty of the pointed pen world of calligraphy, and the amazement with this art caused her hobby to grow into a serious pursuit. She voraciously learned Copperplate, Imperial script, Madarasz, Textura, Fraktur, as well as Italic and its variations, from beloved teachers such as Younghae Chung (@logos_calligraphy), Suzanne Cunningham, Schin Loong (@openinkstand), Nina Tran (@anintran) and Denis Brown (@Denisbrowncalligraphy).

In Costa Rica where Nathalie lives, pointed pen calligraphy is little-known. So Nathalie has made it a goal to spread this beautiful art form in her country, for others to practice and appreciate it. In the past year, she started teaching copperplate calligraphy and hopes to expand her offerings in future. Nathalie has sold pieces at art events, and continues to take comissioned work, doing engraving, muralism and more.
