An artist based in Costa Rica

Nathalie Mora

Art has always been part of Nathalie’s life. Since childhood, she loved creating and finding ways to express herself, whether it be drawing, painting, nail art, photography or body painting.

Her calligraphy journey began in 2020 when she joined a lettering class. She fell in love with the beauty of the pointed pen world of calligraphy, and the amazement with this art caused her hobby to grow into a serious pursuit. She voraciously learned Copperplate, Imperial script, Madarasz, Textura, Fraktur, as well as Italic and its variations, from beloved teachers such as Younghae Chung, Suzanne Cunningham, Schin Loong, Nina Tran and Denis Brown.

In Costa Rica where Nathalie lives, pointed pen calligraphy is little-known. So she has made it a goal to spread this beautiful art form in her country, for others to practice and appreciate it. In the past year, she started teaching copperplate calligraphy and hopes to expand her offerings in future. Nathalie has sold pieces at art events, and continues to take commissioned work, doing engraving, muralism and more.

Under the mentorship of Heather, Nathalie fell in love with watercolours and gilding, which opened up a whole new world to her that she wants to continue exploring.

Trained as a dental technician, Nathalie now works as a content strategist at Amazon Books in her day job. Symbiosis II is Nathalie’s first exhibition.
