Massive round-ups were ordered starting in 1941, among which was the huge Vel d’Hiv round-up on July 16, 1942. Men, women and children were arrested and placed in the Gymnase Japy, interned in the camp at Drancy. They were then deported to the concentration camp at Auschwitz and exterminated in the gas chambers.
