During the war of 1939-1945, the Jews were victims of Nazi persecution. Massive roundups were ordered starting in 1941, including the huge roundup of the Vel d’Hiv on July 16, 1942. Men, women and children were arrested and placed in the Gymnase Japy. They were interned at the camp at Drancy, following which they were deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp and exterminated in the gas chambers.
